Piano Galaxie is a piece commissioned to composer Martin Matalon, specifically for recording on this album, and was premiered by Matías Palou on March 6, 2023, at the Bibliothèque Musicale La Grange-Fleuret. This piece explores different types of temporalities through its 4 movements, emphasizing rhythm and articulation.
About Matías Palou
Matías Palou is a young pianist based in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Passionate about 20th and 21st-century music, he includes both classic and lesser-known composers in his repertoire, with a particular emphasis on French music.
He has performed as a soloist in significant venues in Argentina, France, and Belgium, such as Salle Cortot, Teatro Colón, Maison de la Culture du Japon, and Usina del Arte, among others. He has been invited to festivals such as Terre de Paroles, Festival International Albert Roussell, and Festival Internacional Encuentros.
Matías Palou has performed as a soloist with the Academic Orchestra of Teatro Colón and the Orchestra of the National University of Lanús. He has also participated in concerts with Juventus Lírica, Ensamble Prometheus, Ensamble Écoute, and productions of the Centro de Experimentación del Teatro Colón.
In 2023, he recorded his first album titled “Cabinet de Curiosités” in France, sponsored by the Galaxie-Y Foundation, featuring music by Argentine and Spanish composers, including the premiere of a piece commissioned especially for this album from composer Martin Matalon.
He graduated from the National University of the Arts with honors under the guidance of Néstor Zulueta, and continued his training with masters Susana Kasakoff, Françoise Thinat, and José Luis Juri.
He has received awards in competitions such as the “Carlos López Buchardo”, “International Festival of Pianists Mar del Plata”, and was a finalist in the “International Competition of Osaka”.
He was the recipient of the “Fundación Encuentros / Damus-UNA” and “Albert Roussel” scholarships sponsored by the Fondation des Beaux-Arts, which enabled him to specialize in French music with Françoise Thinat at the École Normale de Musique de Paris. He was also awarded a scholarship to participate in the Académie de Musique Française, a cycle of masterclasses directed by Jean-Philippe Collard, where he received advice from renowned pianists such as Bertrand Chamayou, Jean-Claude Pennetier, Michel Beroff, Philippe Entremont, and Claire-Marie Le Guay, among others.
In addition to his concert activities, he currently works as a pianist at the National University of the Arts and at the Conservatorio Superior de Música “Manuel de Falla” in Buenos Aires.
