Two Nights, One Unique Celebration of Piano

The Fundación El Sonido y El Tiempo Internacional (Argentina – Italy – USA), Il Suono e Il Tempo / Sound & Time, together with the Fundación San Rafael, present ARGENTINIAN PIANORAMA: two exceptional concerts in Buenos Aires that celebrate the talent and versatility of the Argentinian piano.

The performances will take place on Friday, October 25 and Friday, November 29, 2024, at 8:30 PM, at the Auditorio Fundación San Rafael (Ramallo 2606, C.A.B.A.). Presentation and commentary for each concert will be provided by journalist Germán Serain.

ARGENTINIAN PIANORAMA CONCERTS:

“The expression of popular music in the classical academic world, tango, folklore, and jazz” as the development of pianistic culture.

October 25: Finding Enrique “Mono” Villegas

A night dedicated to one of Argentina’s most prominent pianists. Focusing on his ability to move seamlessly between classical music, folklore, and jazz, this concert will pay homage to his unparalleled legacy.

Enrique “Mono” Villegas, a key figure in Argentinian jazz history, left an indelible mark on the country’s musical landscape. Initially trained by Alberto Williams, Villegas was the first musician to perform a jazz concert at the Teatro Colón. A friend of figures like Jorge Luis Borges, Astor Piazzolla, and Xul Solar, he masterfully combined genres and traditions throughout his career.

November 29: Tango and More… Saúl Cosentino and Friends

A journey through tango and other genres, presented by prominent Argentinian pianists and a renowned international guest.

  • Argentinian pianists Daniel Goldstein, Diana Lopszyc, Nélida Sánchez
  • Hungarian violinist Édua Zádory
  • Special guests

Saúl Cosentino, a composer and pianist renowned for his contribution to contemporary tango, has been awarded multiple national and international accolades. His work has been performed on stages worldwide, including the prestigious Berliner Philharmonie, where he was honored in 2015 with a full concert of his music.

Together with the Fundación San Rafael, known for its cultural contributions in Buenos Aires, they offer this concert series that highlights the talent and diversity of the Argentinian piano in an intimate setting with excellent acoustics.


ARGENTINIAN PIANORAMA

Since its inception in 2011, ARGENTINIAN PIANORAMA has presented a musical journey that fuses popular and academic traditions through the piano. The programs cover everything from tango and folklore to jazz and classical music, featuring solo piano, four, six, and eight-hand piano performances, as well as two pianos and improvisations on works by composers like Mozart, Chopin, Piazzolla, and Gershwin.

Over the years, pianists such as Saúl Cosentino, Manuel Fraga, and Daniel Goldstein have been part of this initiative, which has also welcomed international artists. The series includes the Piano Technique Workshop, which delves into performance, technique, and improvisation.

The 2024 Argentinian Pianorama Series of Piano Workshops: Mechanics and Sound continues with dates on September 15, October 6, and November 10.
