The calendar for next year includes five ballet productions, seven operas, and eighteen concerts as part of the Buenos Aires Philharmonic Orchestra’s subscription series. Among the operatic titles, the Argentine premiere of Britten’s Billy Budd stands out, featuring stage direction by Marcelo Lombardero. Additionally, familiar works will return to the Colón stage, such as Aida, once again presented with Roberto Oswald’s iconic production, first staged in 1996.

With an eye on the centennial of the Teatro Colón’s resident ensembles, the 2025 Season was unveiled during an event led by Buenos Aires’ Minister of Culture, Gabriela Ricardes, and the Theater’s General Director, Gerardo Grieco. This approach aims to honor the vision of the theater’s founders and emphasize the significance of their legacy, highlighting artistic excellence, the development of local talent, and the continuity of high-quality productions.
The event featured Andrés Rodríguez, Opera Director; Gustavo Mozzi, Music Director; Zoe Zeniodi, Principal Conductor of the Buenos Aires Philharmonic Orchestra; and Maestro Nadia Muzyca, representing the Ballet Estable. Together, they form the team responsible for delivering the season’s programming.
Opera
The lyrical season, directed by Andrés Rodríguez, will feature seven titles. It will commence in March with Verdi’s Aida, in Roberto Oswald’s historic 1996 staging. The season will continue with Puccini’s Il trittico (Il tabarro, Suor Angelica, and Gianni Schicchi), presented in a Teatro Comunale di Bologna production, under the musical direction of Beatrice Venezi and the stage direction of Pier Francesco Maestrini.
The Teatro Colón will introduce four new productions: Britten’s Billy Budd, marking its Argentine premiere under Marcelo Lombardero’s stage direction; Massenet’s Werther, envisioned by Rubén Szuchmacher; Strauss’ Salome, staged by Bárbara Lluch; and Verdi’s La Traviata, directed by Emilio Sagi. Additionally, Bellini’s I puritani will be offered in a concert version.
For casting, Open International Auditions were held, attracting around 200 singers from the region. According to Rodríguez, the high caliber of participants ensured an exceptional lineup for the upcoming season.
Ballet
The Ballet Estable del Teatro Colón, under the direction of Julio Bocca, will present five titles in 2025. The season will open in April with Bizet’s Carmen, choreographed by Marcia Haydée, followed by a mixed program (Paquita, Por vos muero, and Chacona). Other highlights include Minkus’ Don Quixote with choreography by Silvia Bazilis and Raúl Candal, Tchaikovsky’s Onegin as envisioned by John Cranko, and a season finale with The Nutcracker, choreographed by Silvia Bazilis.
In August, an International Gala celebrating the Ballet Estable’s 100th anniversary will feature prominent guest artists. Additionally, open auditions for the 2025 season were announced, with registrations closing on December 15 and evaluations scheduled for February 1.
